Ooni Pizza Ovens Reviewed

If you are like us and wish to get behind the pizza making hype, there is no other place to start than with an Ooni pizza oven. Compact and portable, yet has the capacity to feed the entire family at an affordable price, this makes Ooni one of the fastest-selling outdoor products to date.
In this blog, we will talk about everything Ooni! From where they started to where they are now, what pizza ovens are available and what fuel types can be used.

Ooni Origins

Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, Ooni launched the world's first portable pellet-fired pizza oven in 2012. Since then, they have grown exponentially by launching several variations of the original oven offering different fuel types for extreme cooking versatility. Because of this innovation, Ooni has been accredited with numerous awards, including the Retailers’ Choice Award at Glee Birmingham 2015, the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association 2019 VESTA Award for Best Innovative Product and the National Hardware Show Retailer's Choice Award 2019.

Let's Meet the Ooni Range

This exclusive range of high-quality pizza ovens includes a variety of different fuel types, sizes and styles to make sure there is an Ooni pizza oven for everyone. For those that prefer to cook with wood and charcoal for that authentic charred flavour or for those that like the convenience of gas, there is something here for you.

Fyra

The most up-to-date variation of the original wood-pellet Ooni oven. This model has been updated with some innovative design and performance features to ensure that it lives up to the name of being an Ooni oven. The ingenious gravity-fed pellet hopper automatically feeds hardwood pellets into the oven for effortless cooking. Ready to go in 15 minutes, the Ooni Fyra reaches temperatures up to 500°C (932°F), cooking authentic stone-baked Neapolitan-style pizzas in just 60 seconds.

Karu

The Ooni Karu comes in two sizes; as the names suggest, each is designed to make stunning 12” or 16" stone-baked pizzas within 60 seconds. The Karu range can be fuelled with both seasoned wood and charcoal for a slower way of cooking pizza compared to pellets. There is also a gas attachment you can purchase for this range for ultimate control and convenience. The Karu 12 features a stainless steel body that is ceramic fibre-insulated, with an extra-thick Ooni baking stone and a patented flame keeper for maximum heat retention. The Karu 16 is one of the most technologically-advanced pizza ovens made to date. The addition of the mounted thermometer allows you to keep a close eye on the internal temperature of the oven to ensure perfect results every time. Not just that, but the body has been carefully designed using the highest quality materials for a more fuel-efficient airflow, increased insulation and better visibility from the clear oven door. The Karu 16 is not designed for just making pizza, its oven is large enough and tall enough to sear steaks, bake bread and cakes as well as grill vegetables and fish.

Ready right out of the box, the super-compact Koda 12 is good to go in seconds. Simply flip open the foldable legs, insert the stone baking board, and connect it to a gas tank. It is incredibly easy to control thanks to the heat control dial that allows you to adjust the flame. What Accessories Are Available With Ooni?

Ooni is not just known for its pizza ovens, they are renowned for taking your pizza making experience to the next level and the only way to do that is by offering a host of accessories. One of the main accessories purchased alongside an Ooni oven is one of their pizza peels. Available in 12" and 16" sizes to suit your model of oven, the super-smooth peel makes sliding your pizza in and out of the oven an absolute breeze.

Another favourite is a cover to protect your Ooni when it is not being used. These covers are made from high-quality PVC that is sleek and weather-resistant to keep your Ooni looking brand new with every use. The smaller 12" ovens benefit from a carry handle that allows you to take your pizza oven wherever you go all in one compact package.

Other accessories include high-quality fuel in the form of lump wood charcoal and hardwood pellets suitable for the Karu and Fyra ranges. Why settle for less and hinder your pizza making experience when you can use the best quality fuel available?

Adapt your Karu pizza oven with a gas burner attachment. Offering the same incredible speed and high heat as using other fuels, use the heat control dial to cook across a range of temperatures. Plus, there’s minimal soot or clean-up to worry about thanks to cooking with gas.

Two New Additions to the Ooni Family

As ever, Ooni is constantly trying to revolutionise the pizza oven market and these two new models are doing just that. The new Karu 12G supersedes the ever-popular Karu 12 featuring a new paint job, a drop-down door equipped with ClearView technology which prevents soot and ash from building up on the glass and a SureGrab door handle that stays cool to the touch. This model is suitable for use with wood and charcoal, or a gas burner can be purchased separately for easy propane-fuelled baking that uses 36% less gas than previous models.

Something that we're really excited about is the Ooni Volt 12 which is Ooni's very first electric-powered pizza oven. The Volt 12 offers the same high performance as the other models with the convenience of being able to use it indoors and outdoors with the capacity to reach 450°C in just 20 minutes, at that temperature you can make restaurant-quality pizza in 90 seconds.
