Are colourful wood burners on trend?

Striking bold colours and earth-coloured log burners are both definitely on trend. Earth tones, which include shades like pine green, taupe, browns, and soft greys, have become increasingly popular in interior design. The natural aesthetic of earthy tones is often associated with an organic look, which resonates with the current trend towards being eco-friendly and bringing elements of the outdoors inside. An earth-coloured log burner can enhance this natural vibe, creating a warm, cosy atmosphere in your sitting room. They work well in various design styles, from rustic to modern, and can easily be incorporated into existing décor without overwhelming the space. Colourful log burners make bold statements whereas earth-colour stoves provide a more subtle, sophisticated charm. They can stand out without being overpowering, making them suitable for both minimalistic and more decorated interiors. Given these factors, earth-coloured log burners are very much on trend and are a great choice if you're looking for something stylish yet understated. If you’re looking for a statement piece then a bold colour will be more appealing, don’t hold back and go bold with a brightly painted and dramatic colour. By choosing a brightly coloured stove you’ll bring eyes to the centre of the room and draw more attention to the feature.

Here are a few reasons why colourful wood burners and enamel stoves are in style right now:

  1. Statement Piece - A colourful wood burner can serve as a focal point in a room, drawing attention and adding character. Whether it's a bright red, deep blue, or even a pastel hue, these burners can complement or contrast with the rest of the décor.
  2. Customisation - Homeowners are increasingly looking to personalise their spaces, and a colourful wood burner allows for a unique touch that reflects your individual taste.
  3. Modern Aesthetic - Colourful wood burners often fit well with modern and eclectic interior designs. They can add a pop of colour in minimalist spaces or blend seamlessly in more vibrant environments.
  4. Versatility - With a variety of colours available, these wood burners can match different interior styles, from rustic to contemporary.
  5. Eco-Conscious Appeal - As people become more conscious of sustainability, wood burners are not only functional but also seen as a green choice. The added element of colour makes them even more attractive. So, if you're considering a colourful painted wood burner, you're in line with a stylish and growing trend.

What is the difference between enamel and painted stoves?

The main difference between enamel and painted stoves lies in the materials and processes used to finish them, which in turn affects their appearance, durability, and maintenance. Enamel stoves are coated with a layer of vitreous enamel, which is a type of glass fused to the metal surface at high temperatures. The process involves applying multiple layers of enamel powder to the stove, which is then baked in a kiln. The high heat causes the enamel to melt and bond with the metal, creating a smooth, glossy finish. Painted stoves are coated with heat-resistant paint, often in a spray or powder form, the paint is specially formulated to withstand the high temperatures generated by the stove.

Enamel finishes tend to have a glossy, smooth, and highly reflective surface which make them easy to dust down. They can come in a wide range of vibrant colours, and the finish is generally uniform, the glass-like surface of enamel can add a luxurious, high-end look to the stove. Painted finishes usually have a matte or satin finish, though some may be slightly glossy depending on the type of paint used. The colour range can be broad, but painted surfaces often have a more subdued and less shiny appearance compared to enamel.

Both painted and enamel stoves are relatively easy to clean and maintain. They both resist stains but an enamel stove can be wiped down with a damp cloth but a painted stove must not be wiped down with anything damp as it may rust. The drawback of an enamel stove is that it can be subject to chips and repairs can be difficult. Touching up paint chips or scratches is relatively easier and more cost-effective compared to repairing enamel. Overall, painted stoves are more budget-friendly, available in a range of finishes, and easier to touch up, but they may not be as durable or resistant to wear and tear as enamel.

Can you paint a log burner?

Yes, it’s possible to paint a log burner but you must use the correct type of paint. Wood burners can reach very high temperatures and normal paint from your local DIY store would not be able to handle the heat, they would likely discolour, bubble and flake off. You should always use heat-resistant paint on log burners, lots of manufacturers supply touch-up paint for their stoves so contact a reputable retailer or the manufacturer directly.
