Does a Bio Ethanol Fire Produce Heat?

Bioethanol fires & bio stoves can produce up to 2kW of heat; some fires can reach 3kW when the fuel container is in the fully opened position. For some perspective on the heat output, an electric fire generates up to 2kW heat, so a bioethanol fireplace or stove should keep you suitably warm. At full burn, a bio fire will reach up to 180ºC, which we suggest is a good amount of heat for small to medium-sized living spaces.

What is Bioethanol?

Bioethanol also known as ethanol (C2H5OH) is a clear colourless liquid that can be used as a renewable fuel source. Ethanol is produced by the fermentation of the sugar and starch components of plant by-products.

How Long Does a Litre of Bioethanol Burn?

Typically, a 1-litre bottle of bioethanol fuel will burn for up to 4 hours when the fuel container is in the fully opened position. Closing the fuel container lid to the halfway position reduces the amount of air the flames need to burn and will increase the burn duration; this will also reduce the heat output into your room and the flame height.

How Should You Store Bioethanol Fuel?

Always store bioethanol in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and naked flames. We suggest storing it in garages and sheds. Ensure that your fuel cannot be reached by children or pets.

Are Bioethanol Stoves Expensive to Run? 

The short answer is no; bioethanol fires are not expensive to run however, the cost of running a bioethanol fire can vary depending on the cost of the fuel you use and how far open the fuel container lid is positioned.

Are Bio-Fires Environmentally Friendly? 

Bioethanol stoves and bio fires are a great alternative to gas, solid fuel & electric fires, they are environmentally friendly, energy-efficient and do not produce greenhouse gas emissions.

Can I Install a TV Above a Bioethanol Fireplace?

We recommend leaving a minimum of 60cm between the television and the bioethanol fireplace if you’re installing a TV above it. Whilst bioethanol fireplaces do not produce as much heat as a traditional wood burner or multi-fuel stove, they still give off plenty of heat which could damage a TV if hung too close. 

Do I Need Clearance Around My BioEthanol Stove?

Yes, all bioethanol stoves require clearance to both combustible and non-combustible surfaces, we also recommend you position your fire on a solid non-combustible hearth, tiled floors are fine. 

We recommend a clearance of 150mm on either side, 50mm behind and 300mm in front and above to all non-combustible surfaces.

Can I Place a False Flue Pipe on My BioEthanol Stove?

Yes, we supply various faux stove pipes and accessories for our bioethanol stoves and have a range of compatible ceramic fuel beds if you wish to make your fire look more like a traditional wood burner.

How do I Turn a Bioethanol Fire or Stove Off?

Simply close the bioethanol fuel container lid to starve the fire of oxygen. The flames should extinguish immediately but beware the fuel container will remain hot for some time afterwards. You should NOT refuel your bioethanol fire whilst the fuel container is hot.

Can I Move My Bioethanol Stove or Fire?

Most of our bioethanol stoves and fires can be easily moved to different rooms within your home. There isn't a fixed installation requirement so you can move your bio stove or fireplace into other places within the home ensuring you comply with the clearance requirements we have mentioned above. Whichever room you decide to locate the bioethanol fire, please ensure that the room is well-ventilated.
